PETE KEAL has run storytelling workshops and INSET sessions for Sheffield, Manchester and Wakefield Education Authorities, the University of Manchester and Sheffield Hallam University. In addition to all day workshops, he has run shorter sessions for several schools and organisations such as Wakefield Ethnic Minority Support Service.

Pete runs two workshops which have proved popular with teachers:

  • THE POWER OF STORYTELLING - developed for Sheffield Education Authority’s Primary English Project, this workshop includes examples of traditional stories suitable for all ages between nursery and secondary school. In the session Pete shares stories from a variety of cultures and stories featuring strong women characters. Issues in choosing stories for telling in the classroom are also discussed.

  • PUTTING THE BOOK DOWN - this workshop enables participants to gain confidence in telling stories without using books. It covers preparing stories, skills in telling and it gives people a chance to practice in a supportive environment.
