Storytelling Festivals

Beyond the Border Storytelling Festival takes place in South Wales in July (no festival in 2008) at St Donat's Castle Beyond the Border

Festival at the Edge takes place annually (usually 3rd weekend in July) at Much Wenlock, Shropshire: Festival at the Edge

The West Country Storytelling Festival takes place in South Devon in late August or early September: West Country Storytelling Festival

Emerson College , Rudolf Steiner based venue runs frequent storytelling courses: Emerson College

In Ireland - Cape Clear Island International Storytelling Festival takes place first weekend in September. Cape Clear Storytelling Festival

Storytelling Newsgroups & Email Lists

A Storytelling Email discussion group is hosted at Texas Women's University, USA. People interested in storytelling in America, UK, Scandinavia, Australia and elsewhere subscribe to this and something like 40 messages a day are exchanged. To subscribe, email the message:

If you're looking for stories on the web, lots of traditional tales can be found at the site of Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts created by D L Ashliman at the University of Pittsburgh.

A site with links to lots of Trickster Tales on the web is the Fool's Paradise Trickster Site .

Storytelling Organisations

The Society for Storytelling (SfS) is a country-wide society in Britain for promoting storytelling. Its activities include publishing a quarterly newsletter, factsheets and a Directory of Storytellers. A number of groups concentrating on areas such as education and health meet under its umbrella. The Society holds an annual gathering each Spring attracting hundreds of people interested in storytelling. The Society's website is at http://www.sfs.org.uk .
